About the reserve

Cethins Meadow is a traditionally managed, flower-rich, hay meadow once typical of meadows across the Marches before the advent of artificial fertilisers and herbicides.

In spring and summer, wildflower species to see include pignut, eyebright, yellow rattle, betony, oxeye daisy, bird’s foot trefoil, common spotted orchid and southern marsh orchid. The diversity of wildflowers and grasses also supports many meadow butterflies and day flying moths including the six-spot burnet.

The meadows are bordered by hedgerows containing mature trees and these provide habitat for willow warbler and chiffchaff.
