Parking information

A wide verge at the Western entrance to the site gives enough space for one or two cars. Please do not block the gates or any other private access.

Grazing animals

Sheep graze this site in late summer so please keeps dogs on leads.

Walking trails

Parts of the reserve may be very wet, so waterproof footwear is advised. Sheep may be grazing here in late summer, so please keep dogs on a lead. A bridleway runs through the reserve.

About the reserve

A roughly triangular shaped registered common in the foothills of the Black Mountains, this reserve consists mainly of grassland bounded on the north and south by woodland. Over 150 species of plants have been recorded here, among which cowslip, spotted orchid and cow-wheat are some of the most notable.

Directions

From B4348 at Vowchurch turn onto minor road running west towards Michaelchurch Escley, after 3 miles at the cross roads at the top of the hill at Crossways garage turn left, after 500 m/yards there is a wide verge at the western end of Cannon Tump Common, grid ref 327 346. Cannon Tump, Cethins and Little Marises can all be accessed from the bridleway running north east from the gate into the Cannon Tump reserve.
