This nature reserve comprises an impressive and majestic sweep of grassland lying on the gently north and south facing slopes of the Dulas Brook. The Brook itself supports a rich diversity of species indicating good water quality and signs of otter may be seen along its entire length. It also has a thriving population of native white-clawed crayfish.
The grassland supports a fine variety of wildflowers, grasses and fungi. Typical neutral hay meadow wildflowers occur throughout the grassland. Species such as cuckoo flower, pignut, yellow rattle, meadow vetchling, tormentil, common bird's-foot trefoil, common spotted and heath spotted orchids and bugle may be seen. The grassland supports a good diversity of waxcap fungi including the pink waxcap.
*Please note that the footbridge has been removed so there is currently only access to the far side of the site via the public footpath through Dulas Court (or across the fords if the river level is low). The bridge was damaged earlier this year following high rainfall so was removed for safety reasons. A new bridge has been ordered but consent is required before we can install it and so we will probably now wait until the spring. Then the ground conditions are again dry enough for the heavy machinery that will be needed for installation.
