Role details

Wildlife Watch is the junior membership scheme for the Wildlife Trusts and is an exciting way of introducing young people to wildlife and the natural world in their own local communities.

We have groups in Ledbury and at Queenswood who need a core of 4 volunteers each to plan and deliver a 2 hour session each month/every second month.

With 4 volunteers we hope to cover illness/holidays/commitments and so keep the planning manageable and fun for all. The ground work has already been laid and a healthy base of ‘experts ‘ to call upon to engage the children has been created. Prepared materials and guides and tools are also at your disposal.

Main tasks:

• To support the Watch leader and help to run the monthly Watch group sessions, providing support to the young people in the activities
• To develop and plan activities for future sessions aimed at engaging young people of all ages
• To be able to demonstrate ‘how to projects’ to support or investigate wildlife eg bird feeders from scrap, amateur binocular training, carry out an insect hunt

Skills/Qualities Needed

• Love of Nature and love of creativity
• Experience working or volunteering with children and young people
• The volunteer will be a ‘face’ of the Trust in this role and must be courteous and friendly
• Given the role is working with young people a DBS check will be needed, this can be completed as part of the volunteer induction
