Tree surgery work at Bartonsham Meadows

An update from Bartonsham Meadows

We have been made aware that work has been taking place to reduce the canopies of a number of the trees on Bartonsham Meadows Nature Reserve. Please be aware that Herefordshire Wildlife Trust do not have any responsibility for managing the trees on the nature reserves as part of our lease and this work is being carried out by the landowners, the Church Commissioners.

We have discussed the management of one particular tree with the Church Commissioners, a large ash tree, and have run a fundraising appeal to raise money for a fence to encircle this tree as an alternative safety measure to prevent it being felled. Many thanks to everyone who has donated to this appeal. The fence will be installed later in the year when the crown reduction work is completed. The Church Commissioners are getting an ecological report on the tree before carrying out the reduction work and in the meantime, temporary heras safety fencing will be installed around the tree. This will be put in place on Wednesday 16th April.
