About the event

Come and join the Herefordshire Fungus Survey Group for an enchanting day dedicated to the fascinating world of fungi. This event promises a captivating mix of presentations, forays, and identification sessions that will immerse you in the rich diversity of fungi found at Queenswood. Whether you are a seasoned mycologist or a curious beginner, this is the perfect opportunity to expand your knowledge and appreciation for these incredible organisms.

The day will kick off with informative presentations by experts in the field, offering insights into the ecology, identification, and unique characteristics of various fungi species. These talks will provide a solid foundation for the forays that follow, arming you with the knowledge to recognise and understand the different types of fungi you encounter.

Following the presentations, you'll embark on guided forays through the beautiful surroundings of Queenswood. Led by knowledgeable guides, these forays will give you hands-on experience in finding and identifying fungi in their natural habitat. It's a fantastic chance to see a wide variety of species up close and to learn the subtle differences that distinguish them.  Throughout the day, you'll have ample opportunity to ask questions and engage with the experts, perfecting your identification skills and deepening your understanding of fungal biology. The experts will be on hand to assist with any tricky identifications and to share their enthusiasm for the subject.

You have the option to bring a packed lunch or pre-book a warm meal, freshly prepared by the Queenswood Cafe on-site. The set menu is as follows. Select the 'with lunch' option when you book:

  • Local sausage with creamy mash, served with rich onion gravy, buttered greens, and a crispy onion and bacon topping.
  • Apple and blackberry crumble with locally sourced apples and homemade custard.
  • Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options available.

This event is more than just an educational experience; it's a celebration of the wonderful world of fungi. You'll leave with a greater appreciation for these often-overlooked organisms and a wealth of knowledge to further your mycological adventures. So, come along for a magical day of learning and exploration with the Herefordshire Fungus Survey Group at Queenswood.
