The project spans the whole of the River Wye catchment across England and Wales, with the focus in England covering the Wye Valley National Landscape and Herefordshire. The project’s priority areas include the Wellington Brook, Yazor Brook and Willersley Brook. Cross border work focusses on the Hay-on-Wye area, with further priority areas in Radnorshire, Wales, of Rhayader and Pentwyn.
Over these priority areas, the three Project Officers have visited 45 farms which cover over 8,000 hectares of land. Nature-based solutions to adapt to, or mitigate for the impacts of climate change have been progressed on over seven of these farm and counting! This is a great step in achieving one of the project aims which is to deliver 50 nature-based solutions. Some of the interventions progressed include tree planting, hedgerow restoration, shelter belts, scrapes, leaky dams, ponds, meadow restoration and integrating herbal leys into the farming system.
