Wild about Inclusion

Wild About Inclusion: Equality, Diversity, Inclusion & Accessibility

Our vision is to bring people closer to nature, with land rich in wildlife. Our mission is a society where nature matters, where everyone has a strong and personal connection with wildlife and wild places.

However, we recognise the conservation sector is one of the least diverse in the UK and we know that not everyone has equal access to nature. This is why we need to reflect, learn and change our approach in the way we work so that we can engage and inspire people from all backgrounds, cultures, identities and abilities to take action for wildlife, to protect it and engage in nature’s recovery.

We are committed to making positive steps to bridge the gap of inequity in the sector, which is why we are addressing and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in all that we do. We want to better understand the barriers that face underrepresented communities in accessing nature, and work in partnership to create an inclusive landscape that reflects all walks of life. Nature is for everyone.

Accessibility

We are taking steps to improve the accessibility of our sites, events and resources and are always keen to have feedback and suggestions for improvement. Please get in touch at enquiries@herefordshirewt.co.uk

Nature Reserves

The accessibility of the majority of our Nature Reserves is currently extremely limited. While the nature and location of each site can limit the facilities we can provide, we hope to improve basic accessibility on key sites over the next few years. For specific information on individual nature reserves, please contact us in advance of your visit. enquiries@herefordshirewt.co.uk

Queenswood Country Park & Arboretum

We aim to make Queenswood as accessible as possible to as many visitors as possible. Accessible facilities are detailed below but we would be keen to hear of other facilities or improvements you would like to see on the site. Please get in touch at: info@queenswoodandbodenhamlake.org.

  • There are a number of easy access paths with hard surfaces and no steps within the Arboretum so those with limited mobility or using electric mobility vehicles (EMVs) can enjoy a circular walk.
  • The car park includes spaces reserved for blue badge holders
  • Electric Mobility Vehicles are available to borrow to use around Queenswood from April to October (depending on weather conditions). They must be booked at least 24 hours in advance - please call 01432 530088 or call in to the Visitor Centre. New users will be given an induction which lasts for 5 minutes and we ask for a donation of £5.
  • There is an accessible toilet next to the Visitor Centre. Toilets are open every day from 9am to 4pm.
  • Our school and family activities are designed to be inclusive of all, regardless of ability. Please contact us if you would like to discuss specific requirements.
  • There is an audio trail which can be followed on surfaced paths.
