The Herefordshire Wild Youth Forum will be supported and hosted by Herefordshire Wildlife Trust. The forum will will be shaped by those who join but will be delivering events and campaigns as well as offing young people opportunities to learn more about the environment and nature conservation and get involved with practical conservation work.
The first meeting is planned to take place on 6th March at 5pm at De Koffie Pot café in Hereford and then sessions will be monthly. The Forum may organise events, run campaigns or do conservation work to help wildlife.
Matt Williams, a youth environmental campaigner who is a former Director of the UK Youth Climate Coalition and who is coordinating the Forum said: “The environment is barely out of the headlines right now, from “insectaggedon”, to plastic pollution, to climate change. As the school strikes for climate, that have now spread to the UK, have shown, young people are also our best leaders in speaking up about these issues.
“We’re setting up this youth forum because we want to empower the county’s young people to make Herefordshire better for wildlife, nature and the environment. What we work on and how we do it will be up to them. And we’ll be part of a growing national movement of young people asking politicians and governments to make the whole UK better for wildlife and nature.”
