This is the third workshop in our nature journalling series for 2025.
This practical workshop will provide the opportunity to explore Queenswood Arboretum in all of its fabulous autumn colours and be inspired to create beautiful artworks.
Initially, we will undertake a nature walk within the arboretum to discover the feature trees of the season. This will also be a fabulous opportunity to try your hand at landscape photography under the expert guidance of the course tutor.
Following, there will be a practical workshop exploring how to paint autumn leaves using watercolour.

About the tutor
The workshop will be delivered by Backbury House Retreats Lead Tutor Sharon Brookes. Sharon is a fully qualified art teacher and mindfulness coach and has taught in a range of educational establishments with a career spanning nearly 30 years. She has recently relocated to Herefordshire and currently delivers award-wining art courses from her studio base at Backbury House Retreats.

Q1. I am a complete beginner in art. Will this course be suitable for me?
Absolutely yes! The workshop will be delivered will lots of helpful guidance, demonstrations and advice in order for you to build your skills and knowledge in manageable steps. You will also be offered individual support, as and when you require.
Q2. How far will we be walking?
We will be completing a guided walk along a trail consisting of approximately 1.5 miles in total. The trail includes some steep sections of path that may be muddy in wet weather. However, you will be free to walk a shorter alternative easy 1-mile route, if preferred. In addition, the alternative trail offers hard surfaced paths for easy access.
Q3. Do I need to bring any equipment with me?
For your convenience, the workshop includes all of the art materials that you will require in order to complete the tasks. However, you may wish to bring a camera/camera phone to capture interesting images. You may also like to bring a set of binoculars for closer viewing, if you have them.
Q4. Will you be offering more workshops like this?
Yes! We are currently planning similar workshops which will be offered throughout the year and allow you to explore and respond to the country park and arboretum during all four seasons.
