Nature Tots is a Children in Need funded project supporting families and children under 5 through activities and crafts in the wild! We have been working with 6 families at Leominster Priory every week and have been exploring the abundance of nature and wildlife available to us there. We have made binoculars and been on a bird hunt, used magnifying glasses to look closely at different insects and used palm drills to make holes in conkers which the children then searched for twigs/feathers for legs to make spiders! There has also been lots of leaping about in huge piles of Autumn leaves. On our nature walks we have collected feather, leaves, pine cones, sticks and acorns to make natural mobiles as well as decorating our nature crowns and making wands! At the end of each session we enjoy a small snack of fruit, vegetables and crackers with milk or water. Introducing a variety of healthy snack ideas to families is an important element of the project ensuring that not only are families learning to be more physically active, but also how to eat a healthy well balanced diet.

We have adapted the way we deliver our sessions to ensure both the families and staff are safe during these uncertain times. All our sessions and activities are Covid safe with lots of opportunities to wash hands and no sharing of resources. Families have been attending one to one sessions rather than in big groups and staff have been wearing visors as an added precaution. We have successfully been delivering sessions in this way since the end of September and look forward to starting up again in the New Year for more fun and adventures in the wild.
