About the event

Join Trevor Hulme, nature reserve officer and bird expert, for a fascinating exploration of Bodenham Lake’s birdlife. Spanning around 50 acres, Bodenham Lake is one of Herefordshire’s largest stretches of open water and a critical overwintering and breeding site for wildfowl and other aquatic wildlife. The lake is designated as a Site of Local Importance and, where it borders the River Lugg, holds the status of a Site of Special Scientific Interest and Special Area of Conservation.

Over 170 bird species have been recorded here, making it a haven for bird enthusiasts. Otters are also regularly spotted, and the site supports a significant breeding population of toads, which migrate to the lake each spring. In summer, dragonflies and damselflies thrive near the water, while butterflies flourish in the meadows and weedy areas. Learn about the diverse species and conservation efforts that make Bodenham Lake a vital refuge for wildlife.
