Monday 27th November, the start of ‘National Tree Week’ saw the planting of Herefordshire’s King's Coronation Tree at Queenswood Arboretum.

Herefordshire’s Lord Lieutenant, Mr Edward Harley MBE led the tree planting party. Queenswood as the only Country Park in the county and as the most visited attraction in Herefordshire, was chosen earlier in the year to host the tree planting. A ‘Deodar Cedar’ was chosen by Tamsin Clive (Chair of the Coronation Tree Fund) as the ideal tree to both celebrate the King’s Coronation and to add to the Arboretum’s collection.

Jamie Audsley, Chief Executive of Herefordshire Wildlife Trust said ‘We are thrilled to be able to offer a great location within Queenswood Arboretum for this very special tree. The Cedar will commemorate a special occasion and will be open for all to visit.’

The tree was planted near the gateway to the autumn garden within Queenswood Arboretum at the top of Dinmore Hill between Hereford and Leominster.

The wood used for the plinth on which the plaque is mounted was felled at Queenswood and sawn during Queenswood's inaurgral Festival of Wood the previous weekend by Aron Collins of Say it with Wood and Peter Broadly, coppicer and hedgelayer.
